Nothing is more beautiful than a perfect smile! In fact, a perfect smile brightens up your entire face and at Strevey Dental it gives us tremendous pleasure to be able to give so many people the smile they want without spending a fortune while getting it.
One of the most common gripes that so many of our patients have is not having the perfect set of white, bright teeth; instead years of coffee, tea or soda pop stains or general discoloration. But we have designed a fantastic collaborative system that works for you, incorporating our high-tech in-office treatments while allowing you the freedom and flexibility to manage some aspects of the treatment from the comfort of your own home.
How Does The Collaborative Whitening Process Work?
The reason we are calling this collaborative and why we are able to offer this service at a fraction of the cost of other treatments resulting in the same results, is that we work with you during the process. Together, we accomplish the results you seek with a combination of in-office treatments as well as at-home procedures that supplement the work performed in-house.
Once we know you are the right candidate for teeth whitening, we start by creating custom-fit trays designed for your individual set of teeth. Specially developed, the custom-fit trays are designed to provide you the least discomfort and most convenience when you are doing the treatment at home. Our trays fit your teeth precisely, lending to a highly specialized whitening treatment that is far superior to any over-the-counter bleaching systems.
Through consultation, we determine the level of whitening that works for you and we demonstrate the procedure before sending you home to do daily applications on your own. Depending on our patients’ lifestyles there are varying levels of concentration of the whitening material – also varied in terms of how long they need be applied.
After an approximately two-week course we invite you into the office where we perform the whitening boost part of the process. Isolating each tooth we apply a professional-grade, highly concentrated bleaching substance, leave it on for 20 minutes, rinse and repeat the process. The result is a boost over the whitening the teeth are undergoing at home. Once we are done, we send you back home with more material for another round of tray-application.
Through years of practice and researching what works best for our valued clients, we’ve realized that this is an effective method to obtain the same results other practices might charge far more to achieve. In fact, when you consider that a lot of practices suggest replacing a crown or getting new veneers instead of specialized bleaching treatments, the cost of our entire procedure is less than just one new crown or veneer.
Are There Any Dental Prerequisites For This Treatment?
Prior to recommending this as a viable treatment for patients, we like to perform an extensive examination of all your teeth to determine whether there are any problems or concerns that need resolving before getting started. To get a “green light”, we must first make sure there is no evidence of decay, no broken down fillings or any intrinsic staining within the tooth such as from tetracycline or other semi-permanent stains. We also check for favorable alignment (whether or not the patient needs orthodontic treatment), making sure there is a good smile line and that the teeth’s foundation is in a good condition. Once outstanding issues are resolved, generally we are able to proceed.
What Makes This System Better Than Traditional Whitening Methods?
Since we are able to combine our efforts in the office with at-home applications of bleaching material there is a significant reduction in cost. Not only that, we closely monitor patients’ progression to make sure the system is working well for their needs. Unlike store bought bleaching systems, being under the care of a dentist is far more beneficial and definitely longer lasting.
Clearing Up Misconceptions About Teeth Whitening
Contrary to popular belief, brushing your teeth harder does not work to whiten one’s teeth. Similarly, people that brush their teeth with whitening toothpastes will also not see noteworthy results. The bottom line is that to treat stained or discolored teeth, the best and sometimes only viable treatment is having your teeth professionally cleaned and whitened.
Another common misconception is that the light used in many dentists’ offices whitens teeth more so than using whitening material alone. Research has shown that other than just to warm up teeth, even drying and causing sensitivity, high concentrated light has no specific benefit to patients.
